ASR League closed, Oulun kesä & Leo's demonstration game.

Yeah! The first month in the ASR League is now officially over!

I can finally take a breather... or not.

The league is now on and yet again I'm the lowest rank on my class. I'm probably going to get pounded again, just like I did last month.

This is probably going to look like crap. :) I just copy-pasted it from the ASR League Results page.

Anyway, I was going to make some commentary on the previous three games I posted, but I soon realised I was currently playing too many games to really remember what I was thinking in any one of the games I played before. All-in-all I managed to play 15 league games before the results for June were closed. And yes, I lost them all. But it's all fine, because the guys I got to play against were really strong, so I guess I learned a lot just by losing to them. After all, as some people say, I gained more than they did in those games. So we can pretty much say the advantage is really mine.

There are two games I want to show, even if I skipped the rest altogether. The first one is the game I played against hausmilbe 10k, where I finally thought I might have a chance of not getting senselessly beaten to pulp, along with my stones. The second game, the third match with asm 5k is also worth showing, since that was when I could, for the first time start to see where I could place my threats, where the game would be decided, although still being a bit anxious to attack a bit deeper into the enemy territory. That, and going for the tengen way too early as if wanting to secure its existence or something. Maybe there's a way to resolve such fear and constrain myself from doing these things, I'm sure there is, and I think I will eventually find a working solution to it.

I marked some of the places I remembered from the review asm gave me after the game, that could have been played differently.

My first Go event is closing up!

A while ago I was invited to participate a three day go event and a tournament held during the Summer of Oulu festival in Oulu, Finland. That's about 500 km north from where I live, so I'll have to leave on an early buss at 3:00 in the morning to get there on time. It's a good thing a friend of mine lives in Oulu so I got a place to stay during the event.

I'm a little bit scared though. Never been to one of these, and have little to none experience of playing live, so I guess I'll get pummeled on the board quite a lot, just for being too slow or nervous or something. After all, I'm just a 15kyu on KGS, and I think I saw that those who have already registered to the tournament are at least 15 kyu on the European rankings (EGS), I don't have much a chance there. But I hope it'll be fun anyway. ^^

One more thing...

My 4 year old son, Leo played a game against me today, which I broadcast on KGS as a demonstration game in the Advanced Study Room since I mentioned there that he'd insisted on playing the white stones. It was pretty popular, and I guess he got praised too. Well, we "cheated" a little, since I gave him a couple of tips on what was happening, and then hinted how he could create two eyes on one of his groups, on the upper right corner. But Suddenly I noticed there was a flood of white stones on their way to kill all my stones. And before I could do anything, the game was over, and Leo declared himself the winner.
